Frequently Asked Questions

When should I refer a patient for a pain evaluation?

You should refer a patient for a pain evaluation at Nura when conservative treatments have been exhausted, and the patient isn’t showing improvement. If the pain persists despite your current management strategies, a specialized evaluation at Nura can help identify more advanced treatment alternatives.

How soon can I get a patient in?

We understand the urgency of managing your patient’s pain, so we do our very best to schedule them within the same week. Our goal is to ensure they receive the care they need as quickly as possible.

What types of insurance do you accept?

We accept most major insurance providers at Nura. Our Prior Authorization Team will work directly with your insurance company to request authorization for the necessary services on your behalf.

Do you order diagnostic tests or imaging if needed?

At Nura, we do not have in-house imaging, but we will refer your patient for any necessary diagnostic tests or imaging to accurately diagnose their condition. This ensures they receive the most appropriate care tailored to their needs.

Does Nura do medication management?

At Nura, we incorporate opiate medications into a comprehensive pain management plan that includes a variety of treatments. Our multidisciplinary approach combines interventions such as injections, nerve blocks, and implants with physical therapy, psychological support and additional medications. While opioids may be part of the plan, our primary goal is to find safer and more effective pain management solutions for our patients.

Can I refer a patient for only a procedure?

Yes, you can refer a patient directly to our ASC for a procedure. We can handle referrals specifically for procedural needs without requiring a full evaluation beforehand. If needed, we can accommodate same-day or next-day scheduling provided that insurance approval is obtained.

Do you recommend surgery if it’s indicated, or do you refer the patient back?

If a patient is considered a surgical candidate, we will refer them to the appropriate specialist for further evaluation and surgical intervention. We will keep you updated with case notes to ensure you’re informed about your patient’s care throughout the process.

What if the recommended treatment for a patient I refer doesn’t work?

At Nura, we utilize a range of multidisciplinary approaches to address chronic pain and continuously explore effective solutions. If the initial recommended treatment does not yield the desired results, we will reassess and consider alternative strategies to improve your patient’s condition. If necessary, we will refer the patient to the appropriate specialist for further care. Rest assured, our goal is to find the best possible outcome for each individual.

Will you send a communication regarding the recommended plan of care?

At Nura, we review and adjust treatment plans at each visit to ensure the most effective approach for your patient’s evolving needs. We provide regular progress notes to keep you informed about the patient’s response to treatment and any changes to their plan.
